GensCorp engineers download newly released Microsoft patches and install them in a test environment for research and discussion with other technical groups. Once a patch or patches have been "white listed" they are deployed to the client system. For patches where there is a known attack/worm on the Internet and an immediate deployment has been suggested, then we do testing over 2 days and rollout the patch. Otherwise we test for 2 weeks on our internal test environment and get external feedback from various technical newsgroups. Definitions:White Listed indicates (to the best of our knowledge/testing/research) that this patch(es) can be installed on the system without any known issues.
Black Listed indicates (to the best of our knowledge/testing/research) that this patch(es) may create issues with the operating system/application. Research continues for a work around (if this is a critical patch) until there is a re-release from Microsoft before white listing.
